The Empress and El Diablo

When forced to move back in with his parents, Eddie seeks the guidance of a fortune teller whose mysterious and shocking counsel isn't quite what he was expecting.  The Empress and El Diablo, follows Eddie Roberts, through dreams and reality, as he valiantly struggles with his horrifying destiny, his overbearing family, and a girlfriend who's too tired to fool around.  Inspired by the writings of C.G. the history

we've been at this for awhile

Founded in 2002, Toy Box Theatre has directed and produced a broad spectrum of theatrical works that has continuously engaged and transformed audiences.  View the journey of how we began and how far we've come and check out the different types of productions below.

In 2007, in order to broaden our access to talented artists of all genres, we created the Pub Theatre series to supplement our prior developmental reading series BluePrints. Pub Theatre is a monthly program that takes place at various locations in the city. The night is designed to give performing artists an opportunity to try out work in progress in a relaxed setting and has featured musicians, mimes, improvers and solo-performers. By expanding our base of talent we hope to find future collaborators who can bring additional inspiration to our shows in the forms of choreography, musical composition, puppeteering, and forms of multi-media including visual artists, live broadcast, archival footage, and independent film makers. By collaborating with multiple genres of art and performance we can continue to stimulate our audiences with diverse, thought provoking and original work.

In a time-twisted riff on the nature of obsession and old-testament sacrifice, Soren Kierkegaard needs to get into the mind of Abraham at that moment on the mountain with the boy and the knife. And then there's a fiancée to repel, a father to satisfy, and 20th-century philosophy to invent.
